Win32s Download Instructions

****NOTE**** This is a large file (over 2 Megabytes). If you need it you
should probably download it at TRIUMF and take it home on disks rather than
download it over a modem. If you do want to download it over a modem, start the
download and take the kids for a walk. This is going to take a while!

Download Windows Win32s package now

Please follow these instruction exactly! You need to install
this package only if you plan on using a 32 bit program
(i.e. Micro X-Win32 or 32 bit versions of Netscape or Mosaic)
on a Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11 system.

DO NOT INSTALL THIS PACKAGE ON WINDOWS 95!!!

Windows 95 does not require this package to run 32 bit programs

The following instructions are from Microsoft's Win32s readme.txt file. Use them
to install the Win32s package.

If you have a modem and have downloaded the Pw1118.exe file.

The Win32s files are provided in a compressed state in the Pw1118.exe
file, which is a self-extracting file.

1. Create a directory on your hard disk for the decompressed files.
For example, you could create the directory "Install" by entering
the following at the command prompt:

      mkdir install

2. Copy Pw1118.exe to the new Install directory, change directories to
the Install directory, and type the following at the command
   prompt:

      pw1118

This decompresses the Win32s files into an installation layout (setup
program) in the Install directory.

To Install Win32s on Your System
--------------------------------

1. Run Windows and start the File Manager.

2. Open the Install directory (the directory created in step 1 of the
   setup instructions above).

3. Double-click Setup.exe. The setup program installs Win32s and
restarts the system to update the system files.

Win32s is now installed or upgraded on your system, and any
obsolete Win32s files have been removed.

4. Delete the Install directory and its contents.
