Staff picture 1972 Staff pictured on the lower half of the Main Magnet poles (taken during construction).
Vacuum tank, upper magnet poles and the support/lifting structure are not yet assembled.
Eight of the twelve dual Lifting Jack assemblies can be seen around the outer edge.
Joining sections of the lower Main Magnet coil can be seen clearly at 3 o'clock and 7 o'clock.
The holes through the magnet sectors are for the tie rods which are fastened to the floor and the
underside of the vacuum tank to prevent it from being crushed by atmospheric pressure when evacuated.
