DESCRIPTION OF THE SIEMENS XLS FIRE ALARM SYSTEM

A Siemens XLS Fire Alarm System monitors over 700 input devices comprising smoke and heat detectors, manual pull stations
and sprinkler systems' flow, pressure, and tamper switches.
The system also operates numerous bells, visual warning devices, sprinkler system solenoid valves and smoke control fans.

The Fire Alarm System is monitored by a ULC approved dual-path transponder which reports the system status directly to the Monitoring Centre.


SEQUENCE OF OPERATION

This document describes what the system will do in the event of an "Alarm", "Trouble" or "Supervisory" condition.

The Fire Alarm System is an addressable, single stage system controlled via numerous PMI's (Person Machine Interface) and SSD-C (System Status Display with Control)
control units strategically located throughout the Site in the following locations :

All panels are kept locked at all times with the exception of the one in the Main Control Room.

In the event of a FIRE condition the following functions will occur on all panels :

In the event of a SUPERVISORY condition the following functions will occur on all panels :

In addition the entire TRIUMF site is monitored and can be controlled by a Siemens Building Technologies Network Command Centre (graphics computer)
located in the Main Control Room (Service Annex, Ground floor) which displays all conditions of all systems and includes floor plans of all areas.

In the event of a FIRE condition, a printout of the area floorplan, which contains the device in alarm, will be automatically generated
for presentation to the Fire Department Responders.
