DESCRIPTION OF THE SIEMENS XLS FIRE ALARM SYSTEM

A Siemens XLS Fire Alarm System monitors over 700 input devices comprising smoke and heat detectors, manual pull stations
and sprinkler systems' flow, pressure, and tamper switches.
The system also operates numerous bells, visual warning devices, sprinkler system solenoid valves and smoke control fans.

The Fire Alarm System is monitored by a ULC approved dual-path transponder which reports the system status directly to the Monitoring Centre.

SEQUENCE OF OPERATION

This document describes what the system will do in the event of an "Alarm", "Trouble" or "Supervisory" condition.

The Fire Alarm System is an addressable, single stage system controlled via numerous PMI's (Person Machine Interface) and SSD-C (System Status Display with Control)
control units strategically located throughout the Site in the following locations :

• Main Control Room - SSD-C (Service Annex, Ground floor, monitored 24/7)
• Service Annex B2 floor - PMI (West wall)
• Main Office Building Lobby - PMI (Ground floor, West side of building.)
• ISAC 1 TMB Bldg. Entrance - SSD-C (Ground floor, South Stairwell)
• ISAC 1 Experimental Hall - SSD-C (Experimental Hall, by room 117)
• ISAC 1 B1 Hallway - PMI (TMB B1)
• ISAC II Main Entrance Lobby Graphics panel - SSD-C (West side of building.)
• ISAC II Control room - SSD-C (Level 1, room 245).
• ISAC II Electrical room - PMI (Ground floor, room 165)
• RCA1 - PMI (L2, South Penthouse)
• RCA South Hallway - SSD-C (hallway near door #11)
• NORDION Building Lobby - PMI (West side of building)
• NORDION Building Electrical room - PMI (B1, room 050)
• Stores & Design Office Facility - PMI (North Stairwell Lobby)
• e-Linac Compressor Building - PMI (east side, Compressor room, by personnel door)
• ARIEL Building - SSD_C (North Stairwell)
• ARIEL Building - SSD-C (South ground level entrance lobby)
• ARIEL Building - PMI (Electrical Room, B1 North)

All panels are kept locked at all times with the exception of the one in the Main Control Room.

In the event of a FIRE condition the following functions will occur on all panels :

• the ALARM LED will flash
• the Audible Silence LED will flash
• the internal buzzer will sound
• the alphanumeric display will show the address and message for the device in ALARM
• alarm bells will sound for the building or buildings in ALARM
• relay modules for the building in ALARM will start or shutdown HVAC fans as programmed (if applicable)
• the fire alarm panel will transmit an ALARM signal to the Monitoring Centre, who will dispatch Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services.

In the event of a TROUBLE condition the following functions will occur on all panels :

• the TROUBLE LED will flash
• the internal buzzer will sound
• the alphanumeric display will show the address and message for the device in TROUBLE

In the event of a SUPERVISORY condition the following functions will occur on all panels :

• the SUPERVISORY LED will flash
• the internal buzzer will sound
• the alphanumeric display will show the address and message for the device in SUPERVISORY

In addition the entire TRIUMF site is monitored and can be controlled by a Siemens Building Technologies Network Command Centre (graphics computer)
located in the Main Control Room (Service Annex, Ground floor) which displays all conditions of all systems and includes floor plans of all areas.

In the event of a FIRE condition, a printout of the area floorplan, which contains the device in alarm, will be automatically generated
for presentation to the Fire Department Responders.
